LIFE church in Auckland, New Zealand is making a commitment to using LED fixtures to light the stages and principal auditoriums across all its campuses explained technical manager Mark Johnson, who specified Robe DLX Spots and LEDWash 600s for the main 850 capacity auditorium at their Mount Eden Road site one of two sites in the city.

This is used for Sunday worship sessions and also available for conferences, seminars and other events related to the Ministry and its activities.

The move to LED underlines a commitment to carbon consciousness as well as being substantially more cost-effective in running costs with no bulb replacements or other disposables.

The decision on which brand moving lights to purchase  was made after a comparison between Robe and other products, which was co-ordinated by Lighting Supply Company, local partner of the ULA Group, Robe’s Australian and New Zealand distributor.

Mark works with a technical team of 6 and many volunteers - currently 18 involved in lighting operation - the youngest of whom is 14.

Many LIFE events are recorded and made available as podcasts and also live streamed, so the requirement is always that everything looks exciting and dynamic onstage for the audience who are right there … as well as good on camera for all those experiencing the action remotely.

Matt Cardno worked in the fats-paced world of TV lighting for 20 years before joining Mark on the technical crew at LIFE, and looks after all the production kit day-to-day in venues.

LIFE has been his first experience with the brand, and he’s impressed! “The Robes are amazing” he comments, “really reliable – you turn them on  ... and they just work and keep working!” He appreciates the flicker-free operation of the LEDs which is essential for camera work, and also with his TV background in mind, thinks the colours are excellent.

Matt was also involved in purchasing the DLXs and says that the “quality and price point” were ideal.

They also have eight Robe LEDWash 600s at their Albany Campus which is near the airport.

It’s all change for LIFE in the next two years as the Mount Eden site is moving to a brand new location nearby in the next 18 months complete with a new 1500 seater auditorium, while another completely new-build venue is also due to come onstream.
